waste and growth

For the Waste and Growth project we worked with local waste from Central Saint Martins as a resource of cultivating mycelium. We chose to use Sawdust and Coffee Cups as main substrates and our successful recipe is made of 30% sawdust and 40% paper cups.

The design purpose of this project is to develop a hexagon tile system with this mycelium-made material. We wanted to show our waste on the surface therefore we used a microscopic picture of sawdust as a pattern. To emphasize the design of the hexagon we decided to place the pattern on the side to obtain a unique final composition.
